The Dialogue With Agba Jalingo
EPISODE 27
Investment is defined as the action or process of
putting money, effort , time, etc. into something
to make profit.
Investments in a country may be in the form of
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) or Local Direct
Investment (LDI).
Investment is essential in any country in order to
increase employment, reduce poverty and
enhance economic growth.
Unfortunately, policy makers both at the state and
national levels do not tend to give much practical
attention to the link between investment and
economic development.
Policies currently being contemplated or
implemented, no matter how genuine, cannot
develop the state's economy unless investment is
accorded the attention it deserves.
However, there are concerns that attracting
investments without them being able to connect
with and support growth of existing small and
medium scale industries may be detrimental to
sustainable economic growth.
The Cross River State Government established the
Cross River State Investment Promotion Bureau
to coordinate and monitor investment promotion
activities in the state.
Has the Investment Bureau achieved set
objectives and is the state on the right path?
Also, how are existing small scale industries being
carried along and benefitting from the investment
drive if any?
This is the focus of "The Dialogue with Agba
Jalingo" this week with the Topic:
Investment As a Catalyst for Economic
Development; Is Cross River On The Right Path?
With us to discus this are (Arc) John Etim
