Some gunmen attacked a bus belonging to God is Good Motors at Elibrada, Emohua axis of east-west road in Rivers state on Monday, abducting at least five passengers.
Nnamdi Omoni, spokesman of the Rivers state police command, confirmed this to TheCable, saying the driver of the bus was shot.
Omoni said three of the passengers were rescued following the intervention of the police.
He also said the injured bus driver was receiving treatment at an undisclosed.
Omoni added that the police was making effort to see that the two still in custody are released “within the next 12 hours.”
“Our men responded immediately and rescued three of the passengers while two are still with the kidnappers,” he told TheCable.
“We are trying to be careful to avoid harming them or getting them killed. We are making efforts to see that they’re rescued within the next 12 hours.
“All other passengers are safe. It was only the driver that was shot but he has been taken to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
“We have retrieved the bus and it is currently at the police station.”
Omoni also said the police will beef up security along the road to ensure there is no repeat of any kidnapping incidence in the area.
He assured members of the public of their safety.
