School Teacher writes Gov Ayade Democracy Day letter
A secondary school classroom teacher, Mr. Mike Udam has written the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Professor Ben Ayade a Democracy Day letter.

In the letter, Mr. Udam pointed out the Pro and Cons of Ayade and what he’d expected of him as a Governor after spending three years in office since his swearing in May 29, 2015. The letter reads thus:

“Dear Senator Ben Ayade,
I recall the excitement that greeted your entry into full control of government of Cross River state 3 years ago today. This is my 8th open letter to you and I must state categorically that you most often give listening ears to my plea through this medium. I sincerely believe that if we all can constructively engage you, being a professor and a man blessed with sound knowledge, you will make some positive adjustment for the betterment of the state.

“As a person I must say you have done your best to transform the state. We are seeing your projects dotted here and there across the state. As a teacher, I can make bold to say you have done well in Primary education through SUBEB. Your health sector is also worthy of praise. Your industrialization drive in on course and hopefully we will be eating rice, taking cocoa tea, taking medicine, use toothpick and wear cloths all produced in the state. To me that is a giant stride. In Bakor language we will say Gafol. Umu lemkpekpe. Irem kpereng.

“Your Excellency, a lot more still need to be done.

“First I will like you to address the issue of communication gap across the state. As I write today from Ogoja, the entire Northern senatorial district of the state does not know what you are doing. I think you should direct your commissioner for information or your SA media to commence immediate talks with any known mega satellite TV network (DSTV, TSTV, etc) so that CRBC can be linked. It will help showcase the successes recorded by your administration.

“Secondly, the rains are setting in and I am of the view that asphalting the Mfom-Obanliku road is timely. The Okpoma to Okuku axis is seemingly ready for asphalting.

“Thirdly, it is on record your Excellency, that you had set up a committee headed by Mr Ken Akla to tour the state and gather data about the known and visible infrastructure deficit and conduct needs assessment first hand of communities in dire need of government attention. You were applauded. The team visited Ukpagada in Ogoja LGA and saw the Ukpagada bridge that was destroyed 48 years ago during the civil way. You promised the people of Ukpagada that very soon work will commence in the construction of that bridge. Soon after your engineers visited the village, nothing has been heard about the bridge again. It will be great gain for your administration to construct a bridge to a community that produces the best quality yam in Ogoja and the entire northern Cross River.

“Fourthly, permit me to demand that you give Hon Jarigbe Agom 100% support in his bid to attract a federal University of Technology to Ogoja. As a sitting governor, you have all the powers in the world to make input into that Bill and I am convinced that as a professor, you are not unaware of the value of a federal university located in your senatorial district. I know you can do it. I am too unqualified to teach you how to go about it. The Bill has passed it second reading and got overwhelming support on the floor of the house. A final touch from you will complete the assignment.

“Lastly, let me appeal to you to take up the issue of the abandoned 132kva power station located in Ogoja that has been completed but yet to be linked to the national grid. My expectation is that you will use your good offices to discuss with the honourable minster of Power to ensure that the project is activated. As at today, Ogoja and it environ is in darkness. It is in your hands. Although it is a federal government project, you are still the governor of the state.

“I pray you look into these issues raised.
I wish you well in all your aspiration in life.
God bless you.
God bless your family.
Stay blessed
Mike Udam
Ordinary Classroom Teacher”.
